Team Yank is Back to Walk Off Parkinson's!!
Hi everyone! It's Karen, captain of Team Yank. Len Yankosky, aka Yank (and also Dad to me and my siblings), was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2007. In case you don't know already, PD is a progressive neurological disorder that affects gait, limb movement, speech, fine motor skills and cognitive functioning, to name just a few things. Dad doesn't talk about PD that much, but he fights it in his ways, which include weekly boxing sessions enabled by the Parkinson's Foundation of the National Capital Area (PFNCA)
PFNCA provides exercise, communication and education programs to those impacted by Parkinson’s in the D.C. metro area. These programs can't cure PD, but they do help reduce and slow its impact, and they improve the quality of life for those with PD, as well as their care partners and families.
We'd love to have you support Team Yank and PFNCA, whether by donating, walking with us (it's free, and what other event gives you a chance to stroll the warning track at Nats Park?!), or cheering us on.
