Please support Walk Off Parkinson's by supporting our team - Good Vibrations. Join us on Sunday September 18, 2016 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. -- home of the Washington Nationals -- to benefit the Parkinson’s Foundation of the National Capital Area (PFNCA). That day, Good Vibrations will gather with thousands of others impacted by Parkinson’s to show that those facing this disease do not do so alone. We will walk the field at Nationals Park and raise funds to support those impacted by Parkinson’s including people diagnosed with the disease, care partners and their family members.
Irony touches all of our lives. Parkinson's is one of those ironies in my life. The first I remember paying attention to the diisease was when my friend Gail's husband was diagnosed. Gail and I were special friends. And, as special friends do, we shared so many thiings in life. Little did we know that one of our shared experiences would be that my husband would be diagnosed several years after Don. I have come to know the truth. There are three kinds of people in the world; those who have Parkinson's, those who know someone with Parkinson's, and those who will be diagnosed with Parkinson's. Richard is not the only member of our family being treated for Parkinson’s. His brother and his father are being treated for Parkinson’s. So, this is truly a family battle. We are working on every front to battle this disease and the impact it has on the lives of people living with Parkinson’s and their loved ones.
This year we walk for all, and in loving memory of "my Gail." Gail passed away in March. It was not to be that way - another one of life's ironies. But, we have much work to do. Gail and Don were great beneficiaries of the work PFNCA does for the Parkinson's community. Gail would want us to be out there walking and sharing our Good Vibrations as we WALK OFF PARKINSON'S! Gail knew how important our support of PFNCA is because of how important PFNCA was in supporting her and Don in their journey.
How Parkinson’s Impacts People and Builds Community
PFNCA is a leading organization providing programs and services directly to those impacted by Parkinson’s. While there is no cure for PD, research tells us that those diagnosed with it can take steps to slow how the disease impacts them. PFNCA provides exercise, communication and education programs throughout Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. PFNCA improves the quality of life of those impacted by Parkinson's disease, their care partners, and families, and fosters a sense of community to ensure that no one battles this disease alone. Simply stated, PFNCA strengthens the physical and emotional health of people impacted by Parkinson’s. Walk Off Parkinson’s is the name of PFNCA’s community fundraising and awareness walk, but it is so much more. It is a rallying cry to focus on how those impacted by Parkinson’s can take steps to slow how PD affects them. Whether it is a practical mindset of regularly exercising or a philosophical one that a person can enjoy life even when faced with challenges, Walk Off Parkinson’s is a way of life. Your Help Is Needed We need your help to continue this important work. Funds raised will be used to maintain PFNCA’s current exercise, communication and education programs, and allow PFNCA to serve more people.
Please support Good Vibrations in our efforts to help those facing Parkinson’s. I am proud to tell you that PFNCA was recently named one of the best small nonprofits in the Greater Washington Region by the Catalogue for Philanthropy. Additionally, more than 81 cents of every dollar raised supports programs and services provided by PFNCA. Together, we will Walk Off Parkinson’s. Please make a tax-deductible contribution today.
